The CGNA Annual Picnic

CGNA's Social Committee coordinates an annual picnic every September, with a BBQ, games and fun for the whole family. It's a great time for a nice day in the park and meeting some of your neighbors.  CGNA provides food, drinks, and all the necessary utensils.

We have some pictures from the 2011 picnic, the 2010 picnic and the 2007 picnic online, as well as the 2011 flyer announcing details.

Block Parties

CGNA helps coordinate block parties for the various streets in the Canoas Garden neighborhood. Some blocks still need coordinators -- it's a lot of fun and helps you get to know your neighbors. If you'd like to help out with this, please contact the Social Committee.

Dates for block parties will be listed on the Calendar page.

We have photos from some of our block parties online.

The Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale

In the spring, the Canoas Garden Neighborhood Association organizes a one-day neighborhood-wide garage sale. Of course you can hold your own garage sale any other time -- but the neighborhood-wide sale is an easy way to bring in a lot of potential buyers, and perhaps to find some wonderful things that your neighbor no longer wants.  The info below is a description from a recent year's event:

The garage sale will run from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm. The CGNA will advertise the garage sale in the San Jose Mercury News, various local newspapers and on internet web sites like craigslist.org. We will also create signs to put up on Almaden Expressway and Old Almaden Road. There are no fees associated with this garage sale; just pull out the items you want to sell and earn some money!

For questions, please send us an email.

Film Projector Movie Nights Roll of movie film

Once a month in the summertime, we show family-friendly movies in the park after sundown.  Bring lawn chairs or blankets and your favorite munchies, and enjoy a movie with some of your neighbors.  Films will be listed on the Calendar page.

Produce  Farmers Market  Apple

Calling all backyard gardeners and lovers of fresh locally-grown produce!  Come by the park and share the bounty of your harvest, swap tips on gardening or pick up some fresh produce from your neighbors.  This is not a typical farmer's market because no money changes hands.  Instead, folks bring the overflow of their gardens (or sometimes baked goods) and offer them to folks who can use them, and everyone enjoys a little time spent in community celebrating good local food.  You do not need to have things to bring; some of us are overflowing with fruits and veggies and are simply glad to have a good home for them.  Check the Calendar page for the next scheduled event.

In addition, the North Willow Glen Neighborhood Association does one every Sunday from 1:00-3:00 pm, up at Hummingbird Park (Bird x Fisk).

Christmas Tree Christmas In Our Neighborhood  Christmas Tree

The custom of neighbors putting lighted Charlie Brown Christmas Trees on their front lawn is an old and cherished tradition in Willow Glen.  Dawn Smith introduced this tradition into our own neighborhood about 10 years ago.  It began with Lanewood Dr. and Lanewood Ct. and participation has increased to include the entire neighborhood.  Over 100 households participated in 2010.  Tree street captains will contact their neighbors in early October, as all orders need to be placed by mid-October. Trees generally arrive the week after Thanksgiving.  Two sets of traditional colored lights, an extension cord and a support bar are needed.  A white light should be at the top of the tree.  Trees are set up approximately 17 feet from the curb in the center of your lawn.  Using this guideline, the trees on the street should be positioned in a reasonably straight line.  All trees should be lit by the first week in December.  This event unifies our neighborhood and brings a spirit of celebration.  We look forward to even greater participation this year.  If you have questions, contact Dawn Smith – 269-0796.
