Minutes of the CGNA General Membership Meeting, January 29, 2008
President Bill Aaron called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm. Present were Aaron Quigley from the City Council District 6 office, and Board members Tony Medina, Kristin Patterson and Gary Smith.
Aaron Quigley made two announcements about District 6 events.
Kristin submitted the Treasurer’s report. At the end of 2007 we had $707.18 in our bank account.
Bill Aaron updated the meeting on projects around the area.
- The JSM project is on hold until the housing market improves.
- The Scottish Rite project is still not above the ground.
- The connector from southbound Almaden to westbound Curtner is being upgraded, and a stoplight is being installed at Curtner, so traffic headed for the new Target shopping center can turn left on Curtner. The connector ramp work is scheduled to be completed at the end of February.
- The Safeway store is closing June 8 th. A Fresh and Easy store will replace it.
- The SCVWD will be replacing the clay in the Guadalupe River channel with better soil and will be planting trees.
Bill Aaron reviewed the work of the CGNA in 2007.
- The Association got up and running again after a five-year hiatus.
- New By Laws were written and instituted.
- The Association with the help of Aaron Quigley was able to get the City to verify that the flood mitigations for the Helzer Ranch and Dow Drive Developments were constructed. Also Mike O’Connor with Public Works agreed to set up Policies and Procedures for his department for flood events, to insure that emergency pumping equipment will be available for our neighborhood. Mike will be sending a copy of those Policies and Procedures to us. The pumping station that we need at the end of Redbird Drive is still not in the works.
- Mark Nijmeijer and the Demographics Committee set up our web page and developed a neighborhood data base.
- Ralph Pearce is working on a history of our neighborhood.
- Tony Medina reviewed the accomplishments of the Social Committee. We held Block Parties on Redbird and Lanewood Drives, restarted our Annual Neighborhood Picnic and initiated a neighborhood-wide Christmas or Holiday tree program for our yards.
The intersection at Ironwood Drive and Almaden Expressway was reconfigured by the County with money designated for bike lane construction. The County did not notify anyone of their plans, and they apparently did not conduct a traffic survey or study. With angry input from our neighborhood they agreed to move the lanes on Ironwood to the left, so we could turn right out of our neighborhood.
The City resurfaced our streets, and when the workers repainted the lines at the end of Ironwood Drive, they, on their own, decided to move the lanes on Ironwood back to the right. The lanes were no longer over the traffic detectors, and the traffic light would not change for left turn traffic out of our neighborhood. After multiple calls to the County and City over a 3 ½ week period, the City finally repainted the lines where they are supposed to be.
The curb at the taqueria is still not painted red, although we have been told by the City three times since last March that it would be done.
Bill Aaron outlined the Association’s plans for 2008.
- We will continue to develop our web page, so residents will be better informed of our activities. We hope to update it weekly.
- We would like to stage Block Parties for every street throughout the neighborhood.
- The Social Committee will hold a Neighborhood Garage Sale on April 19 th.
- We will expand the Christmas or Holiday tree program to the whole neighborhood.
- We will start to set up Emergency Preparedness teams on each street in our neighborhood.
- The Beautification Committee will routinely pick up litter and remove graffiti throughout our neighborhood. They will try to stage one beautification project each year.
