We have all seen the video of the earthquake tragedies in Haiti and Japan. What would we do if faced with a similar disaster in San Jose? Government officials have made it clear that emergency services probably will not be available in our neighborhoods. They are encouraging us to prepare to meet the challenges of natural disasters on our own.
The Canoas Garden Neighborhood Association is setting up a committee to help our neighborhood prepare for natural disasters. This is a big job and we need as many neighbors as possible to participate. If you can help with this very important effort, please call Bill Aaron at 978-9678, or e-mail him. The committee's first meeting will be August 9, 2011.
Help us get prepared before it's too late.
In addition to joining the committee, you can start thinking about how to protect and provide for your family and friends in an emergency. Let's start with some useful information from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The good news is that some of the activities are the same for quakes and floods, so your prep work will do double-duty there:
